Egg, Inc. is a game with incremental (clicker) gameplay at its core, using many of the elements found in simulation games to give it a unique feel and gameplay style. Instead of menus, you see clear and colourful 3D graphics and a delightful flock of chicken simulations. As well as choosing your investments wisely, you must also balance your resources to ensure a smoothly running and efficient egg farm.

More experienced incremental (clicker) players will love the urgent gameplay and depth provided by the different gameplay styles required throughout the game. In order to reach the ultimate goal of having a huge egg farm with astronomical value, you will need to balance many prestige strategies to make the most of your time.

The game play consists of a red button that can be switched in size and has a chicken on it. When the button is pressed, the chickens are released and, therefore, the eggs they produce can earn money. This money can be used to further upgrade the egg farm by conducting laboratory research, thus increasing the value of the eggs, the speed of production and the size of the player's distribution fleet. To increase the profitability of the farm, players can build larger spaces (called coops) to raise more chickens, buy larger trucks to transport more eggs and more granaries, and keep the farm running on its own for longer. There is also Epic Research, which is purchased with gold eggs and is permanent (it does not reset when players upgrade their eggs or prestige). This includes lowering the price of buildings, increasing soul egg boosts, and researching and increasing the size of hatcheries. Egg, Inc also allows players to earn currency by watching advertising videos. Every few minutes, a white truck will come by and drop off a package containing money (which increases in value as the value of the farm increases). When the player's farm earns more and is more productive, the player can upgrade to a different egg and start again, but each egg will sell for a higher price. Later egg types, trucks and chicken coops have a futuristic theme.

There are also drones that give the player cash when clicked. Sometimes, players may get some golden eggs. Golden eggs are premium currency; they can be earned while playing or purchased with real money and do not reset when upgrading eggs or restarting. Using said currency, players can purchase temporary props, such as clicking on unlimited chickens for ten minutes or double earnings for two hours, or they can get epic research to upgrade other areas, such as getting rare (elite) drones, or increasing the time to double earnings. When a player's farm reaches a certain value based on eggs, the player can upgrade the type of eggs sold on the farm to higher value eggs and start again.
